Background

In many underserved schools across India, students lack proper seating, affecting their comfort, concentration, and overall learning experience. 

Recognizing this challenge, Confluence Valley – Flavours Private Limited, a leading provider of world-class Flavours, Fragrances, and Molecular solutions to the FMCG sector, sought an impactful CSR initiative that aligned with its sustainability and education goals. 

This led to a collaboration with unWOOD, an innovative company producing eco-friendly school benches made from plastic waste.

Objective

To improve learning conditions in rural and underprivileged schools while promoting sustainability by replacing wooden benches with durable, weather-resistant, and maintenance-free unWOOD School Benches.

Implementation

  1. School Identification – Confluence Valley identified a school in its neighbourhood which required school benches.

  2. Sponsorship & Installation – The company sponsored unWOOD School Benches, benefiting one classroom.

  3. Awareness – The initiative taught the kids, a lifelong learning in avoiding deforestation and circular economy, emphasizing company’s commitment to sustainability and education.

  4. Impact Assessment – Feedback was collected from teachers and students, and an environmental impact report was generated.

Results & Impact

                                   

Improved Learning Environment – Students now have access to comfortable, durable seating, enhancing their classroom experience.
Sustainability Milestone – The project recycled 150 kg of plastic waste (~ 6800 plastic bottles or ~20,000 biscuits or chips packets or ~ 750 discarded toys), contributing to environmental conservation. Not to forget that this material avoided the use of natural wood there by saving the planet.
Leadership Commitment – The initiative reinforced the values driven by top leadership commitment to be a socially and environmentally responsible organization.
